2022 Mayfield ‘1815’ Chardonnay – 95 POINTS

Elevation of 900m and 25-year-old vines; seven months in a combination of new and seasoned oak. Latent power from start to finish with the developing Mayfield signature style of finesse and grace. Lemon aspen, lime cordial and white nectarine. Crushed sandstone and struck match. A yoghurt creaminess is followed by darting acidity and a touch of phenolic bitterness on the finish. A steal at the price.

Picked in the cool of the night and pressed straight into stainless steel. Pungent lime skin, perfumed white florals, Granny Smith apples and steeped tea leaves. The wine shows finesse and delicate craftsmanship. The 5g/L of RS sits well into the wine with enough acidity to carry.”
